Booking conditions
These conditions apply to trips and motorcycle rentals booked with Norway Moto Adventure AS.
Draft. These conditions follow Norwegian law as we read it, but they have not yet been checked by a Norwegian lawyer. The amounts and deadlines below are our proposal and may still change before the site goes live.
1. Who you are booking with
Your contract is with Norway Moto Adventure AS, org. no. 938 432 759, Myrsætervegen 12, 3522 Bjoneroa, Norway (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at booking@norwaymotoadventure.com or +47 454 75 914.
Norwegian law applies to the contract. Disputes that cannot be resolved between us may be brought before the Norwegian courts, or before the Norwegian Consumer Authority (Forbrukertilsynet) and the Consumer Complaints Board (Forbrukerklageutvalget) where those are open to you. If you live in the EU you can also use the European Commission’s online dispute resolution platform.
2. What we sell, and what we do not
We rent out motorcycles and equipment, and we hand you a route. That is the whole of it, and it matters for your rights:
- Motorcycle rental, with or without one of our routes
- You rent a motorcycle, optionally with riding gear or camping equipment, and you may use one of the routes on this website or a route the trip builder puts together for you. The routes, the GPX tracks and the roadbook are a free suggestion and are not a travel service we sell you. Your contract with us is a rental agreement.
- Day events, such as Norway Ice Day
- A single day, with no overnight stay: a rental with instruction on a closed course.
Accommodation is never part of what you book with us. Where you sleep along the route is your own arrangement and your own contract with the hotel, guesthouse, cabin or campsite. We do not book it, we do not take payment for it, we are not an accommodation agent and we earn nothing from it. If a place you booked turns out to be closed, full or disappointing, that is between you and them — although we will of course help you think of an alternative while you are on the road.
We never combine the motorcycle with accommodation or with transport in one price, so your contract with us is a rental agreement and the rules in these conditions are what applies – section 8 sets out what happens if you cancel. Whether anything in the Norwegian Package Travel Act (pakkereiseloven) nonetheless reaches an arrangement like this is a question we have put to our lawyer; if the answer changes anything here, we will say so on this page, and nothing we write in these conditions can take away a right the law gives you.
[Travel guarantee. What we sell is motorcycle rental, with the route as a free suggestion on top of it. Whether that brings any obligation towards the Norwegian Travel Guarantee Fund (Reisegarantifondet) is being checked with our lawyer; this paragraph will say what came out of that before the site goes live. What is already clear is that selling the motorcycle and accommodation together for one price would be a package tour, with registration and a guarantee required – and that is not what we do.]
3. Making a booking
A request sent through this website, by e-mail or by phone is not a booking. It is an enquiry, and it commits neither of us to anything.
We reply with availability, exactly what is included, the total price and the rental terms, so that you can see what you are committing to before you do.
A binding contract exists once you have accepted our written offer and we have confirmed it. You then receive a booking confirmation setting out what is included, what it costs and when it is payable.
Please check the confirmation carefully. Names must match the identity document and licence you will bring.
4. Payment
- Deposit: 30% of the total price, due within 10 days of the booking confirmation.
- Balance: due 35 days before the start of the trip.
- Bookings made less than 35 days before the start are payable in full on booking.
Where a booking commits us to a payment we cannot recover — a ferry crossing or a course hire paid in advance, equipment bought in for you — we will tell you before you book, and the deposit for that booking may be higher by that amount.
All prices are shown in Norwegian kroner (NOK) per rider unless stated otherwise. Prices on this website are indicative until we have confirmed them in writing.
We may adjust a confirmed price only for changes in taxes, public charges or fuel and transport costs, never later than 20 days before the start. If such an increase comes to more than 8% of the price, you may cancel the trip free of charge. The same rule works in your favour: if those costs fall, you get the difference back.
5. What is included
Exactly what is included is listed on each tour page and repeated in your booking confirmation. Unless stated otherwise, the price does not include:
- Accommodation along the route, in any form – hotels, guesthouses, cabins, campsites. You book and pay for these yourself, directly with the places you choose, and they cannot be booked through us
- Flights to and from Oslo Airport, Gardermoen
- Travel and cancellation insurance
- Fuel, ferries, toll roads and road charges
- Lunches, dinners and drinks not named in the tour description
- Personal riding gear, unless you have booked gear rental
- The damage excess on the motorcycle – halved if you book the half-excess cover (NOK 250 per day)
6. Requirements for riders
- A full motorcycle licence valid in Norway for the class of motorcycle you have booked — category A, or category A2 for the A2-friendly bikes — held for at least two years.
- Minimum age 21. For the Premium category the minimum age is 25.
- You must be able to complete the tour you book: riding experience, and the stamina for the distances, that match the difficulty level shown on the tour page. If a tour looks like too much, ask us before you book and we will recommend a tailored tour built around how you ride. We may decline to hand over a motorcycle if your experience clearly does not match what you have booked; in that case we will try to move you to a route or a machine that does fit.
- Your own riding gear, or gear rented from us: at minimum a helmet, jacket, trousers, gloves and boots suitable for adventure riding.
- Travel insurance that covers motorcycling, including medical treatment and repatriation, is required. Personal liability cover is strongly recommended. Many standard travel policies exclude motorcycles above a certain engine size — please check yours.
- A payment card in the name of the main rider, for the security deposit.
7. The motorcycle
You receive the motorcycle roadworthy, with luggage and the agreed equipment, and a handover check that we both sign. You return it at the agreed time in the same condition, with the same fuel level. Fuel that is missing is charged at cost plus a NOK 400 service fee.
Please bring the motorcycle back at the agreed time: it may already be booked by the next rider the following day. If you would like to keep it longer, call us on +47 454 75 914 and ask whether that is possible. An extension can only be agreed by phone, not by e-mail.
If the motorcycle is not back at the agreed time and no extension has been agreed, a late-return fee of NOK 7,500 per day applies from the first day, for each day or part of a day, on top of the rental for the extra days. The fee does not apply when the delay is caused by something you could not reasonably prevent, such as a closed road or mountain pass, a cancelled ferry, severe weather that makes riding unsafe, a breakdown of the motorcycle, an accident you did not cause, or illness or injury, provided you call us as soon as you can.
A security deposit of NOK 10,000 is blocked on the main rider’s payment card at handover and released after the motorcycle comes back undamaged. The damage excess is NOK 15,000 per incident. With the half-excess cover (NOK 250 per day) it is halved to NOK 7,500.
The excess is the most you pay for ordinary damage. It does not protect you if the damage happens while a term below is being broken — then you are liable for the full loss, and so is your insurer likely to be.
- Only riders named in the booking may ride the motorcycle.
- A passenger may only be carried on the KTM 1390 Super Adventure S.
- No racing, competition or track use, except on a closed course we have organised ourselves.
- No riding outside Norway without our written consent.
- No riding off legal roads and tracks. Norwegian law on motor traffic in the outdoors (motorferdselloven) is strict, and fines fall on the rider.
- No riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The Norwegian limit is 0.02%, which in practice means none.
- Tyres, chain and brakes wear out; damage from normal use is ours. Keeping the motorcycle serviced on schedule is our job, also during a long rental, so damage from a missed service interval is ours as well. Damage from misuse or a dropped bike is yours.
- Some private gravel roads (bomvei) charge a toll. We plan our routes around them. If you choose to ride one anyway, the toll is yours: we pass the bill on to you afterwards, including any extra charge for not paying on the spot.
- Ferries are yours as well. On crossings with automatic number-plate payment (AutoPASS for ferje) the bill comes to us as the motorcycle’s owner, often weeks after the crossing. We pass it on to you at cost after your rental – including crossings that were not part of any plan we made together. The same applies to any other charge registered to the motorcycle on your rental days.
Tell us about any damage, breakdown or accident straight away. Accidents involving other people must also be reported to the police on 112.
8. Changes and cancellation by you
Cancellations must reach us in writing. The date we receive them is the date that counts.
- More than 30 days before the start
- An administration fee of NOK 500 is retained.
- 30 to 8 days before the start
- 50% of the price is retained.
- Less than 8 days before the start, or no-show
- The full price is retained.
The same scale applies to a rental of one day and a rental of eighteen. Coming back early, or not riding on a day you have paid for, does not reduce the price.
You may transfer a booking to someone else who meets the rider requirements, provided you tell us in reasonable time and cover the costs that arise. We will tell you what those costs are before you decide.
If you stop part-way, for example because the route turns out to be more than you expected, the rental days you do not use are not refunded. The exception is a special reason such as illness, injury or an emergency at home: tell us straight away and we will look at it with you. Such cases are often covered by travel insurance.
Your own bookings are your own risk. If you cancel, or if we have to cancel on you, the nights you have booked along the route are between you and those places – we cannot cancel them, claim them back or refund them. This is why we ask you to fix your rental dates with us first, and to book your beds on terms you can get out of.
9. Changes and cancellation by us
We may have to change a motorcycle model, or tell you that a route we suggested cannot be ridden as drawn. Mountain passes open late, roads close, and machines break. We will always offer an equivalent alternative and will tell you as soon as we know. If a change to the motorcycle you booked is significant and you do not accept it, you may cancel and get the rental back. A change to the route itself does not change what you owe us, because the route is a suggestion and not something you paid for – but we will help you redraw it.
Some departures need a minimum number of riders. If we have to cancel for that reason, you hear from us at least 20 days before a trip of more than six days, seven days before a trip of two to six days, and 48 hours before a day event — and you get everything you have paid back.
Norway Ice Day depends on ice thickness measured on the day. If the ice is not safe, the day does not run. You then get a new date or a full refund, your choice. We do not refund your travel or your accommodation, which is why we ask you to book those flexibly.
10. No cooling-off period
Rentals and leisure activities booked for a specific date are excluded from the right of withdrawal in Norwegian law. Once a booking is confirmed, the cancellation terms in section 8 are what applies — there is no separate 14-day right to change your mind. This is why we ask you to read the confirmation before you accept it.
11. Riding at your own risk
Adventure motorcycling carries risk, and riding in Norway adds gravel, weather that turns inside an hour, tunnels, and animals on the road. You ride at your own pace and you make your own decisions about speed, surface and when to stop.
Our routes, roadbooks and GPX tracks are prepared with care and ridden by us, but they are a recommendation, not an instruction, and conditions change between the day we ride a road and the day you do. The daily stages we suggest assume reasonable weather and an unhurried pace; how far you actually ride in a day is your decision on the day. You remain responsible for riding within your ability and within Norwegian traffic law.
There is no guide riding with you. Support is available by telephone during the hours stated in your roadbook.
12. Complaints
If something is wrong with the motorcycle, the equipment or anything else we supplied, tell us while you are still on the road, so that we have a chance to put it right. Something wrong with a place you booked yourself needs to go to that place, not to us.
Complaints afterwards go to booking@norwaymotoadventure.com. We answer within 14 days. If we cannot agree, section 1 says where you can take it.
13. Personal data
We handle your personal data as described in our privacy statement.
